Erectile Dysfunction (ED), or impotence, is characterized by the inability to develop or maintain an erection of the penis during sexual activity. FAQ: ED & SHOCKWAVE THERAPY

Erectile Dysfunction & Shockwave Therapy FAQS

Before Your Treatment

Is my ED psychological?

Unlikely - the majority of Erectile Dysfunction cases are due to vascular issues and focused shockwave therapy has been shown to increase blood flow to the penis.

More importantly, ED can often be a warning sign of significant health problems ahead.

Please discuss your condition with your Family Doctor.

What exactly is Shockwave Therapy?

Don't be intimidated by the name.

Shockwave Therapy is a modern, non-invasive therapeutic procedure that was first used to perform lithotripsy - the disintegration of kidney stones, via acoustic waves, without the need for surgery.

Today, varying energy level shock waves are applied to the penis to stimulate cell growth and promote the generation of new blood vessels (neovascularization).

The therapy has been shown to produce neovascularization, clear blood vessel blockages, and repair damaged tissue, increasing blood flow to the penis.

You will see many terms used for shockwave therapy, including ESWT (Extracorporeal Shockwave Therapy), Acoustic Wave Therapy, Radial Shockwave Therapy (R-SW), Focused/Linear Shockwave Therapy (F-SW).

What is the difference between the treatment offered at FocusWave Clinic vs. other clinics?

Most Ottawa clinics are offering low cost, acoustic or pulse wave / radial shockwave therapies which only reach the tissues of your issues – and thus can result in a painful, ineffective treatment.

FocusWave Clinic uses the Industry Standard equipment that reaches the cellular level of your condition.

For treatment of certain conditions, including Erectile Dysfunction, Peyronie's disease, and CPPS, only a FOCUSED shockwave device is approved for use by the regulatory body.

Don’t fall for the bait and switch – Ask your clinic if they are using a focused or linear shockwave rather than an acoustic or radial wave, and if their device is approved for treating your condition.

If not - come to FocusWave Clinic and get the revolutionary treatment that is proving successful all over the world.

Click here to download The Art of the Shockwave, written by the Industry Leader in Shockwave Therapy, and note the difference between the treatment devices offered by FocusWave Clinic and other local centres.

What are the benefits of Focused Shockwave Therapy for my sexual health condition?
No Pain

No Side Effects

No Invasive Surgery

No Anaesthetic or Numbing Creams required

No Risk of Infection

No Scars

No Pills or Drugs

No Downtime

Is there proof that Focused Shockwave Therapy works?

There are no sure things in this world - and we highly recommend running full speed the other way from any clinic that guarantees you results.

We will not make any claims that your penis will work like it did when you were 20 years old.

That being said - there are many studies that show amazing results for improving, even reversing ED and other sexual conditions using Shockwave Therapy. Several dozen peer review studies can be seen by clicking here.

Take note that the vast majority of the successful studies use FOCUSED shockwaves (what we use here at FocusWave Clinic) - and NOT radial, pulse or acoustic wave devices.

Who should NOT have Shockwave Therapy?

The following are contra-indications to Focused Shockwave Therapy:

Coagulation disorders (haemophilia)

Use of anticoagulants (especially Marcumar)

Thrombosis

Pregnancy

Cortisone Therapy (up to 6 weeks before 1st treatment)

In addition - we may decline to treat any patient who has not spoken with their primary physician first and might not meet the appropriate physical condition required to undergo treatment.

Can you describe the Free Consultation?

The Free consultation will last approximately 30 minutes and include a Doppler Ultrasound to check blood flow in the area and determine the severity of your condition.

Our staff will evaluate your medical and surgical history thoroughly, specifically if you have conditions such as diabetes, prostate cancer, deep vein thrombosis, malignancies, and others.

It's very important to be clear and honest with our staff during the consultation and let us know what medications you are currently taking.

Not everyone is a promising candidate for Shockwave Therapy.  If it has been determined that you are, we can schedule you in immediately for your first treatment.

Can I bring my partner / spouse?

Totally.  We encourage it.

DURING YOUR TREATMENT

How long are the treatments and how many treatments will I need?

Treatments are 20 minutes - in and out the door - convenient for your busy schedule.

We are located in the centre of the city (Carling & Woodroofe) with plenty of free parking.

Patients will receive a minimum of 8 treatments - 2 per week for 2 weeks, a one week break, and then a repeat of 2 treatments per week for 2 more weeks.

The 8 treatment course is then followed by a break of 12 weeks and a follow up aftercare session to determine your progress.

Additional treatments may be suggested depending on the severity of your condition.

Do I need to bring anything?

We simply ask that you come to the clinic prepared, and as hygenically as possible, so as to be able to start your appointment on time.

Due to the current COVID-19 Pandemic, we ask that you bring your own mask.

Will it hurt? Are there side effects?

NO! Focused Shockwave Therapy for the very vast majority of patients is painless and side effect free.  Weird?  Yes.  A bit uncomfortable?  Maybe.

But Pain is very rare.

In some cases, depending on your skin sensitivity, there might be some redness that lasts under 24 hours.

AFTER YOUR TREATMENT

Can I engage in sexual activity after the treatment?

YES!  In fact, we encourage you to engage in (safe) sexual activities after each treatment.

How long after treatment should I see improvement?

Some patients see immediate improvement, but often times it will take a few sessions to see any measurable results.

Don't be discouraged if you don't achieve immediate gratification.

It takes time for the body to produce the changes needed to improve your condition.

What if I don't see any positive results?

The vast majority of patients see a marked improvement in their condition following the complete series of treatments.  That being said, there are no guarantees that this will work for your condition.

PAYING FOR YOUR TREATMENT

Is the treatment covered by private insurance or OHIP?

FocusWave Clinic is a private clinic and we don't accept any form of insurance at this time.

What are my payment options?

FocusWave Clinic accepts credit cards, cash, or cheque.

After your free consultation, if it has been determined that you qualify for focused shockwave therapy, you may submit full payment or a deposit which will cover your first three treatments.

The balance will be required at the start of the 4th treatment.

We can also arrange financing based on your credit and other factors.

What is the cost of the complete series of treatments?

Please discuss with our clinician the specifics as each patient will have different needs.

Some see excellent results with the 8 treatment standard - others might need additional treatments.
