VAC Coverage — What Qualifies
Since 1 December 2025, VAC authorises focused shockwave therapy for chronic tendinopathies only, where:
- Symptoms have persisted more than 6 months
- Conservative care (physiotherapy, medication, rest) has not resolved them
- Up to 3 sessions per tendinopathy, lifetime — sessions before 1 December 2025 do not count toward the limit
- Prior authorisation is required
Not covered: non-tendinopathy chronic pain and erectile dysfunction. The RCMP Veterans’ Health Care Program generally aligns with VAC criteria. Active CAF members may have broader access through Canadian Forces Health Services.

2. Assessment Clinical assessment to confirm the diagnosis is a tendinopathy and document failed conservative care. |
3. Prior authorisation We prepare and submit the treatment plan to Medavie Blue Cross / VAC on your behalf. |
4. Treatment Sessions run about 20 minutes. No anaesthetic, no recovery period — drive yourself home. |
Why Focused, Not Radial
We use the Storz Medical DUOLITH SD1, a focused electromagnetic device. Focused shockwaves concentrate energy at a set tissue depth; radial devices disperse pressure near the surface. It is worth asking any clinic which one they actually operate.
